Abstract: This research paper explores the impact of social media on mental health in the context of digitalization. Using a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, it first reviews previous studies on social media and mental health through literature review. Then, a questionnaire survey is conducted to collect data from a large number of social media users, ensuring the universality and representativeness of the results. The study finds that there is a correlation between social media usage and mental health issues, with excessive use, cyberbullying, and social comparison leading to anxiety, depression, and other problems. However, appropriate use of social media also has a positive impact on mental health, such as social support and information acquisition. Therefore, it is necessary to use social media more rationally to leverage its positive effects. This study provides evidence for the relationship between social media and mental health, suggesting that individuals should be aware of the risks and learn to control their usage time. For society, it is essential to strengthen the supervision of social media platforms to mitigate their negative impacts on users' mental health. This study also provides directions for future research, hoping that more researchers will focus on this field to make greater contributions to improving people's mental health.
